Physical Education

Children are required to wear black slip-on plimsolls, a white T shirt and navy shorts. A uniform tracksuit may be worn for outside games. All items should be named and kept in a named shoebag in the cloakroom. Many of the indoor PE lessons are taken in bare feet.

Earrings can be dangerous in PE lessons as they get caught so please send your child without them on their PE day, this also applies to swimming.

Swimming

The School is fortunate in having its own heated outdoor swimming pool. We also enjoy the services of a qualified instructor. The pool is used from Easter to the middle of October by all the infant children and the Y3 and Y4 children in the junior department. They all receive a weekly lesson. An additional facility is a purpose built changing room. Parents help with the changing and drying of the younger children and their assistance is highly valued.

The children in Y5 + Y6 regularly attend the Harrow Lodge Sports Centre. They travel there and back by coach. They enjoy the exclusive use of the pool for a half-hour session. The groups are taught by fully qualified instructors.

Sporting Aims

Every child will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of physical activities. Throughout their time at Hacton positive attitudes will be fostered towards these activities. The pupils will be encouraged to work safely and to co-operate with each other.

All pupils will take part in Games, Dancing, Gymnastics and Swimming. The School has a beginners swimming pool and also uses Hornchurch pool. Pupils work towards success in various swimming awards.

During Key Stage 2 the pupils will also take part in Athletics. The older children also have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities during a week at a residential activity centre in West Wales.

In the Junior department, the main programme is supplemented by many extra-curricular sporting and physical activities run by staff, visiting instructors and parents. Competition is encouraged and the School enters various teams at inter-School and district levels.
