At Hacton, our children actively participate in D/deaf community events. One such highlight was the Deaf Aspiration Day at Heathcote Sports and Science College in Chingford. This day was filled with sporting activities and opportunities to connect with peers from other schools. To top it off, TV presenter and England Deaf footballer Marios Costi treated our young children to an inspiring talk.
Hacton regularly attends local Panathlon events, where schools from nearby boroughs and counties compete in multi-sports, swimming, football, ten-pin bowling and boccia. These events allow pupils to represent their school in inclusive competition. At a recent bowling event with 16 schools, Hacton entered two teams, achieving an impressive 1st and 4th place.
Over Christmas, a small group of children visited the Queen’s Theatre to enjoy a fully signed performance of Cinderella. They even met the cast, some of whom were D/deaf and used BSL on stage. It was a magical experience, allowing our children to appreciate the beauty of the Arts and pantomime.
