Learning within the Mainstream Classroom
Where appropriate, D/deaf learners will be taught in mainstream classrooms with a carefully considered support programme. Qualified Teachers of the Deaf closely monitor and support progress, working closely with their mainstream colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Enhanced Provision Teaching
Some D/deaf children’s needs mean core subjects are best delivered in smaller groups. If this is the case for your child, maths and/or literacy will be taught in the base, in an environment and at a pace which best suits your child’s needs. These bespoke lessons are designed, on a needs appropriate basis, in line with national curriculum guidance but will be tailored to ensure progressive learning. Since peer interaction with the class is essential for social and emotional well-being, your child will be integrated for foundation subjects supported by specialist classroom assistance.
Specialist Interventions
A range of intervention support is made available to our D/deaf children. Interventions are carefully planned and are aimed at addressing learning gaps, at mastering understanding and developing confidence. Pre-teaching and post-teaching are key tools in securing understanding and encouraging participation in the classroom. Consequently, interventions are offered to all our D/deaf students.
