Abacus After-School Club operate a Breakfast Club (7.45 am to 9.00 am) and After-School Club (after school until 6.00 pm) for Hacton pupils. Children must be registered before they can attend sessions and payment is based on sessions attended. Details are available from the school office.

‘Whole School’ Assemblies are held on Mondays, Tuesdays (singing) and Wednesdays (Worldly Wise) from 10:20am – 10:40am. Our ‘E for Effort’ assembly celebrates children’s achievements and is held on Thursdays for KS1 and Fridays for KS2.

Mid-Morning Snack

The school takes part in the Governments Fruit and Vegetable Scheme and all children in the Foundation Stage and Infant Department are offered fruit/vegetables daily.

During hot weather all the children are encouraged to bring in a bottle of water for consumption throughout the day. Water fountains are available to all pupils throughout the day.

Lunchtime Arrangements

Our Midday Assistants are responsible for supervising specific year groups during lunch. Either the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher is on call each lunchtime.

A cafeteria system is available and the menus are distributed to each child at the start of each school term.

All Infant pupils are eligible for universal free school meals. Junior pupils’ parents have to purchase their children’s meals online via the borough’s online Squid payment system. Daily, there are three menu options – red, blue and green – which we encourage parents to discuss with their child.

Packed lunches can also be brought and should be in a container marked with your child’s name and class. Healthy options could include for example, pieces of fruit and yoghurt. Each child can bring in his/her own drink, but no cans, glass bottles or fizzy drinks, peanuts or boiled sweets are allowed. A drink of water is available for each child.

If you are in receipt of family credit or income support, it is possible your child is entitled to free School meals. Forms for this are available on request from the School office. To apply for Free School Meals in Havering, please Click Here

Valuables

Children should be discouraged from bringing valuables into School. No necklaces or rings should be worn. Earrings should be studs only. These must be removed for PE, games and swimming lessons. Money should be kept in a purse and the purse kept with your child at all times. Shoulder purses are available for purchase in the School office, along with school book bags. No responsibility is taken by the School or local education authority for any item lost.

Medicines in School

The Authority rule is that no medicines can be given because of the possibility that they might be inappropriate or cause a reaction in particular cases. However, asthma related equipment can be kept in the classroom and the welfare assistant at this School, who has a first aid certificate, will assist the children if necessary.

If your doctor has prescribed any medication which has to be taken four times a day (e.g. antibiotics) a form, which is available from the school office, will need to be completed to give permission for the school to administer a dosage during the day.

Accidents and Emergencies

If your child is taken ill at School or has an accident, it may be necessary to contact you urgently. Please make sure you keep the School informed of any change of address, telephone number, place of work, hours of work and mobile / work telephone number. New parents will be asked to fill in a form that asks for this information. If you or your emergency contact cannot be reached immediately and your child requires hospitalisation a member of staff will accompany your child to the local hospital and will wait there with your child until one of you arrives.
